French IT Minister Axelle Lemaire is not letting up on ICANN. Angered by what she perceives are the organisation’s shortcomings in the .vin and .wine new gTLD application process, Lemaire has been vocal in her criticism. She has also worked hard to rally support for her position in the political arena.
Lemaire apparently remains on a mission, as a visit to Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress this week shows. During her stay, she met with representatives of the Tunisian and Brazilian governments to discuss Internet governance.
“We’re working to host a prep meeting for the World Summit on Information Society in Paris before the summer,” she revealed after getting back from Barcelona. “France intends to continue being a strong contributing factor towards the construction of an effective European strategy on the digital economy.”
