A report is forecasting strong growth for new gTLD domain name registrations over the next 3 years.
The report, highlighted in DomainNameWire, forecasts total volumes of just over 29 million domains in new gTLDs by 2016. New gTLD registries may be praying the report is accurate, but it does seem a tad optimistic.
As an example, for 2014 it assumes 3.5 million registrations. That may be hard to reach by year’s end, considering that according to ntldstats, the current total is a million shy of that.
Meanwhile, with 960,000 names already under management, new gTLD powerhouse Donuts is expecting to hit the million registration milestone this month. “Donuts has now brought 147 new gTLDs to the public,” says the company in its October newsletter.
